Aim:
To carry out assay of Ascorbic Acid.
Chemical requirements:
- Ascorbic acid
- Dil Sulphuric acid
- Starch solution (Indicator)
- 0.1 N Iodine Solution
Apparatus
- Burette
- Conical flask
- Beaker
- Glassrod
- Measuring cylinder
Procedure
- Weigh about 0.1 gram of ascorbic acid accurately.
- Dissolve in a mixture of 100 ml of freshly boiled and cooled water and 25 ml of dil. sulphuric acid
- Tirate immediately with 0.1 N Iodine solution using starch as indicator as the endpoint is clear blue colour
Each ml of 0.1N Iodine solution ~ 0.008806 grams of Ascorbic acid (C6H8O4)
